👀 Did someone say open governance should have an open roadmap? 🎉 https://lnkd.in/eBwdGEu4 🎉 Our first roadmap has been approved by the TSC and formally published! Early in our project, it was important to set our community up for success: copying HashiCorp Vault (for better or worse) was not a viable strategy to build a sustainable community and especially a fork. There simply aren't enough hours in the day to continually do clean-room reimplementations of proprietary features... We'd always be playing catch up. Thus we opted to differentiate ourselves in a key way: listen to the community. Many of the features on our roadmap are things that the community has publicly asked for on the upstream issue tracker and been ignored, time and time again. Paginated lists, because the UI hangs on KV or PKI mounts with lots of entries. Transactional storage, because networking isn't always reliable or timeouts may happen and changes should be rolled back, not left in a random state. PKCS#11 support in OSS editions because, frankly, it is 2024 and strong security is a basic necessity for everyone when running a secrets manager. Improving the mount table limit, because there are times when ~14k secrets engines just aren't enough. The list goes on. Our roadmap seeks to prioritize a few key areas where we think we can make improvements: in safety, in scalability, and in building a community around OpenBao. So check out our roadmap! I really like Maxi Ferreira's recent article on complexity as the "Hopeless Boss Battle" of modern-day Software. In short: "Fighting complexity is a hopeless battle because any piece of useful software comes with a certain amount of essential complexity attached to it, which is the complexity of the problems it solves and the domain it lives in. This type of complexity is the entire reason the software exists in the first place, so there is really no way around it."

Yesterday, I made a presentation on "Static Code Analysis and Beyond with Konsist" at our #KotlinMeetup promoted by Mercedes-Benz.io in our Lisbon office. Alongside very talented colleagues, it was an incredible experience to dive deep into how Konsist ensures a clean, maintainable, and consistent codebase.   We discussed how this #Kotlin-specific approach elevates structural and architectural code verifications, complementing tools like Detekt and Ktlint offering native support for Kotlin’s nuances and architecture checks. A special appreciation for Paulo Pereira for also reflecting on how Kotlin is a language designed to emphasize immutability, placing it on par with mutability. But also thinking on the merits and trade-offs of immutability as a core design principle in software development.   #SharingKnowledge in the tech industry isn't just about learning—it's about fostering collaboration and pushing innovation forward. Especially when discussing tools like Konsist, the power of community comes into play. Happy Thursday! Recently released is version v0.2.1 of Lula with some exciting updates. 🚀 With the addition of the Kyverno Provider, users can now write Validations using Kyverno or Open Policy Agent as the provider for policy evaluation. 🛠 Building on foundations by restructuring the Validation format to be more intuitive and extensible. ⚙ External validation support means you can now write and store validations in files on a local filesystem, git or other storage mechanisms for re-use. Five years ago, we started MuukTest with a question: Could we make "Great Software Testing and Automation" easier? My cofounder Renan Ugalde & I each have 20+ years of Software Development & QA experience. We've seen Bad Software Testing and Great Software Testing - way too much of the former, not enough of the latter: Bad Software Testing:  - Nonexistent professional testing team, expecting "developers to do all their own testing" (which 'works' until it doesn't) - Wild, non-disciplined, exploratory testing that doesn't help  - Testing that's treated as a second-class citizen in an engineering org, not as a partner - Reactive, under-resourced testing teams  - Testing with deficient coverage and no automation at all - Testing that's treated as the last step in an assembly line - Massive teams of testers, treated like a boiler room - Testing that slows engineering down I spent years of my life in Software QA and Testing roles like this… where I spent my Christmas holidays frantically, manually running regression tests across an entire application that *had* to be released yesterday. This is bad Software Testing. It is stressful for everyone and doesn't lead to good outcomes. Great Software Testing is:  - Proactive - A mix of (smart, disciplined, strategic) manual exploration and automation - Partner to engineering - Happens throughout the engineering cycle - Performed and coordinated by small teams of testing experts  - Employs amazing tools - Helps engineering move faster - Delivers insights, not more work Since 5 years ago, we have always believed that 'Great, Fast, Efficient Software Testing' will be made possible by AI. Bad testing happens because of bad ideas and bad tools, but with AI helping with a lot of the heavy lifting of test automation and maintenance, 'Great, Fast, Efficient Software Testing' is possible for more teams. Proud of our work in AI, making Great Software Testing possible for ANY software team. Great Software Testing means better software, faster development, happier customers, and better outcomes for all.

This past week I witnessed clients and friends facing this self imposed challenge to grow and innovate at a very fast pace, pursuing huge far away jumps to take them 10 levels up from where they are now. This takes a lot of courage, specially because it is very uncertain if they will succeed or not, none can possibly know. Today, by coincidence, I ran into this concept that I really liked. Species didn't evolve at a very fast pace, animals didn't get eyes to see or wings to fly from one generation to another. Evolution happens pursuing the innovative adjacent opportunity, this means, what is the next possible thing that can be done or gotten, and go for it. Sometimes we don't need to pursue the final goal in one big jump, this applies to your next financial milestone, your next career move, your life plans, your company's growth, or whatever future state you want to achieve. You can start thinking what is the next possible move I can make and go for it, and from that place, what is the next possible move, and again, go for it. You won't always succeed, so be flexible and open minded to let go the failures and define the next move. At the end, you will end up getting the eyes to see or the wings to fly. Maybe both 😉

Last week, our company flew to Porto, Portugal🌴 for five days, and for three of those days, we attended the NDC { Porto } Conference for Software Developers. Each day featured around six speakers, with each session lasting an hour. As a developer, it was an incredible experience to hear about the latest technologies and methodologies. AI is advancing at a rapid pace, so it made sense that many sessions focused on AI tools and applications. One of my favorite talks was "AI-Powered E2E UI Testing: Faster Creation, Easier Maintenance" by Daniel Ostrovsky, which introduced promising new ways to speed up E2E testing using OpenAI. I also attended a fascinating session on Web Hacking by Espen Sande Larsen, where I was blown away by how quickly a web app can be compromised if you’re not careful about which packages you use. On Thursday evening, we enjoyed an amazing closing session filled with funny stories about development. For me, it was one of the best stand-up presentations I’ve attended—though people from non-IT backgrounds might see it differently! 🫣 Aside from the conference, it was great to spend time in Portugal with my team, because I work remotely from Copenhagen. Since many of us attended different sessions, it was valuable to share what we learned and discuss various insights together. Exploring Porto with my colleagues was also a fantastic experience. Even though we were introduced to many new technologies and methodologies, we will try to implement some of these into our product. Personally, I came away with a lot of great ideas for my own projects, and I’m eager to start working on them. In fact, I’m getting ready to release my first EDA QBus Package to NPM and hope to wrap up some of my other personal projects soon! This conference was a great experience for me, especially as it was my first time attending an event like this.
